Insect
Stings Allergy
How To Avoid
Insect Stings And Stay Away From Allergy ?
 |
Insect
stings allergy
is also one of
anaphylaxis
causes, the most dangerous reaction of allergy that can cause death. It
includes stings of bees, wasps, and fire ants. For most people, the
insect stings may only cause itchy and swelling on the area of the
sting. But for people with insect stings allergy, the reaction could be
worsen. |
Insect Stings Allergy
Symptoms
When a stinging insect stung you, these
symptoms may appear,
-
Redness, itchy, flushing of the skin
-
Increasing production of body liquid
-
Cramp at airways and abdominal
muscles, causing difficult breathing
-
Diarrhea
-
And the symptoms could get worsen as
it is in anaphylaxis.
|
|
But usually the first sting does not cause
severe insect stings allergy. When you got second sting by the same
insect, the venom will interact with the IgE antibody produced in
response to the earlier sting.
What insect is the most dangerous ?
Insect stings allergy are usually caused
by bees and wasps. Sometimes fire ants could cause allergy symptoms too.
Bees
-
Honey bees are more aggressive than
bumble bees, however both bees are usually not aggressive unless
they were threatened, except for Africanized honey bees which is
called ‘killer bees’.
-
Bees usually left its stinger and
venom in the victim. But since it takes few minutes to inject all
the venom, insect stings allergy could be avoided if you remove the
stinger immediately (within 30 seconds).
Wasps
On the contrary, wasp does not leave its
stinger in human skin. Wasp are often found aggressive during late
summer and early autumn.
Fire Ants
Fire ants may attack with little
warning: after firmly grasping your skin with its jaws, the fire ant
arches its back as it inserts its rear stinger into the skin. It then
pivots at the head and may inflict multiple stings in a circular
pattern.
Treating Insect Stings Allergy
Bees stings
-
After being stung by a bee, stay calm!
Do not walk, run or make extreme movements, as it will make the
venom to spread faster in your body, which increase the risk of
having more severe reaction.
-
Immediately (within 30 seconds) check
the sting area. If the stinger is still in your skin, carefully move
it out with something like pincer or with your fingernail. But be
very careful not to squeeze the venom bag (the dark area behind the
stinger), as otherwise it will force more venom into your skin.
|
 |
-
Give an ice compress to the sting
area. Cover the ice with towel to avoid your skin from burning.
-
Gently clean the sting area with water
and soap to prevent secondary infections.
-
To reduce itchy, rub the sting area
with natural ointment or take antihistamine orally.
You can also prepare an oatmeal bath to soak the itchy part
of your body in it. Fill your tub with tepid water, and add one or
two cups of oatmeal. Another way to soothe bee stings is by making a
paste of baking soda and water, and apply it to your skin.
-
To reduce the pain, take paracetamol
or ibuprofen.
-
If the insect stings allergy reaction
stays the same or get worse, consult to your allergist.
Wasps
-
As wasp does not leave its stinger,
all you have to do is to stay calm, and slowly brush the wasp from
your skin to avoid additional stings.
-
Then quietly and immediately leave the
area.
-
Do the ice compress etc. as in bees
stings.
-
If the insect stings allergy reaction
stays the same or get worse, consult to your allergist.
Fire Ants
-
When a fire ant stung you, slowly
brush the insect from your skin to avoid additional sting.
-
When it stung you, fire ant’s venom
kill bacterias, and the dead tissue will leave a kind of pustules.
Just leave it alone, it will dry and disappear within 7-10 days.
