Start Your Clean Habit Today To Get Rid Of Mold Allergy!

Mold Allergy is an allergic reaction to molds spores, which are inhaled by human into the lungs. If you have allergy symptoms all the seasons, most likely you’ve got mold allergy! Mold can grow either inside or outside the house, and can live in all season, but on most country with four season, mold has its peak population during late summer until early autumn.

About Molds

  • Unlike pollen, molds may persist after the first killing frost. Some can grow at subfreezing temperatures, but most become dormant. However, molds that grow indoors can cause mold allergy even in the coldest climates.

  • Molds live and grow in rotten vegetables, garbage pails, compost pails, certain grasses and weeds, or any other places where there are moisture, oxygen, and a source of the few other chemicals they need.

  • Inside the house, molds are often found in warm, damp and dark places like corners of kitchen, basement, bathroom, or other rooms with bad ventilation.

  • Molds can be found also in fermented foods, such as vinegar, yeast, soy sauce, etc.

  • From many types of molds, there are several of them that cause mold allergy. Some of them include Alternaria and Cladosporium (Hormodendrum) are the most common ones, besides Rhizopus, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Helmin thosporium, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Mucor, and Aureobasidium (Pullularia).

Mold Allergy

The symptoms of mold allergy are similar to other airborne allergies, including sneezing, itching, stuffy nose, congestion and dry, rash, hives. When you got above symptoms, diagnose your allergy using skin prick test.

If the test showed that you have mold allergy, then you can start your new habits to avoid the mold allergy. These are lists of things you can do,

  • Pay attention to ventilation and lighting of every room in your house. Put an exhaust fan, or let windows in your bathroom opened.

  • Reduce the humidity in the house. Keep it below 45 degrees, or 35 degree is the best.

  • Avoid food or food sources that is more likely to contain molds/fungi :

  1. Dried fruits such as dates, prunes, figs, and raisins

  2. Cheese

  3. Mushrooms

  4. Vinegar and foods containing vinegar, such as salad dressing, catsup, and pickles

  5. Sour cream, sour milk, and buttermilk

  6. Soy sauce

  7. Meat or fish more than 24 hours old

  8. Breads and other food made with yeast

  9. Sauerkraut

  10. Pickled and smoked meats and fish

  11. Hot dogs, sausages

  12. Canned juice

  • Avoid contact with mold spores by doing grass cutting (wear a mask if you must do it!)

  • Use air conditioning system with HEPA filter. It will help trap spores before they reach you. Air conditioning with a HEPA filter attached works better than electrostatic air-cleaning devices and much better than freestanding air cleaners.

  • Control your house indoor moisture by using a dehumidifier. Find many choices of dehumidifier at my online 1st Asthma Store.

  • Repair immediately any plumbing leaks, blocked drains and water seepage through walls.

  • Throw away old books, newspaper, clothing or bedding.
