Peanut Allergy


Never Underestimate The Most Dangerous Symptom of Peanut Allergy !


 

Peanut Allergy has now become one of the food allergies with the biggest patient in the world. When you got peanut allergy, eating less than 1 piece of peanut can be dangerous for you. Why ?

Peanut is a legume – different from tree nuts which is dried fruits. Peanut has been used widely as a cheaper source of protein, which is suitable for vegetable cooking oil and ingredient for a lot of foods.

The protein contained in peanut (which cause allergy) is hot resistant, which enables it to stay active even after cooking! That is why, when you have diagnosed for peanut allergy, you must avoid any food that is possibly containing peanut and tree nuts for the rest of your life. 90% of peanut allergy patient got allergy only because of one small piece of peanut. A standard peanut has about 200 mg of protein, and studies have shown that some people have an allergic reaction to just 2 mg—or around 1% of one peanut.
 

The allergy reaction against peanut can be divided to three levels:


Light level
When hives and itchiness are the only symptoms.


Medium level
The symptoms could be swollen face (
angio-oedema), tightness on the neck and breathing difficulty.


Severe level
The most dangerous level that can lead to death, also known as
anaphylaxis.


Important Facts About Peanut Allergy....

  • The peanut allergy symptoms can appear right after the exposure, or in 5 minutes after that.

  • Peanut allergy is a life long allergy.

  • Kids show a lighter allergy symptoms compared to adults.

  • The severe reaction usually happen to asthma patients.

  • Statistics noted that at least 50% of peanut allergy patients got attack at least once a year.

  • The best method to diagnose peanut allergy is using your medical history, complied with skin prick test.

  • Every peanut allergy patient MUST bring EpiPen ALL THE TIME, as peanut allergy reaction should be handled immediately to avoid anaphylaxis.

  • Possible symptoms of reaction to peanuts may include (not necessarily in this order):

  1. sense of foreboding, fear, or apprehension

  2. flushed face, hives, swollen or itchy lips, mouth, eyes, or tongue

  3. tightness in mouth, chest or throat

  4. difficulty breathing or swallowing, drooling, wheezing, choking, coughing

  5. running nose, voice change

  6. vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pains

  7. dizziness, unsteadiness, sudden fatigue, rapid heartbeat, chills

  8. pallor, loss of consciousness, coma, death

Peanut Allergy Diet

One way to avoid peanut allergy is...diet! However, it is difficult sometimes to totally eliminate peanut from your diet, as there are many foods that actually contain peanut but the peanut has already been through a process into another food, and that’s why was not stated on the label.

These are list of several foods that might contain peanut :

  • Peanut butter & peanut flour

  • Ground or mixed nuts

  • Cereals

  • Granola

  • Sunflower seeds

  • Grain breads

  • Energy bars

  • Salad dressing

  • Marzipan

  • Nougat in candy bars

  • Store-prepared baked cookies, pastries, and frozen desserts like ice cream

  • Peanut oil, also called Arachis oil or Groundnut oil (organic oil made from peanuts)

  • Artificial nuts, such as mandelonas (artificial nut that, through processing with tree nuts like walnuts, almonds or pecans, have been reflavored.

 

Peanut Allergy Kids

When your kids have peanut allergy, it is sometimes difficult to explain why they can't eat peanut butter like their friends. Why they are different, and so on...
